Answers to commonly asked questions about Pierre and how it works.
Pierre itself is not open source, but we do use and contribute to open source projects. We’re also considering open sourcing the Pierre CLI in the future.
Yes, Pierre uses Git as our VCS of choice. This makes it easy to integrate with your existing Git repositories and workflows, either as a replacement or a mirror.
Pierre currently only supports Git. There are no plans to consider additional VCS options like Mercurial, Subversion, etc.
Pierre is a new product engineering tool that aims to reimagine the primitives and workflows developers have been stuck with for the past 15 years. Our focus is on building new solutions to core developer features like code hosting, realtime code review, a multiplayer rich-text editor, and a fully scriptable CI service. Where other services include everything but the kitchen sink, Pierre is focused on a handful of core features that we believe are essential to modern product engineers and their teams.
Yes, you can use Pierre with GitHub, GitLab, BitBucket, and other Git hosting services. Since Pierre is it’s own Git server, you can use Pierre to mirror your repositories back to GitHub. Learn more about our GitHub integration if you’re curious.
At present, we do not have integrations for GitLab or BitBucket. However, you can always use multiple remotes to push your code in tandem to Pierre and other Git hosts.
Our goal is to launch our public beta this summer. We are currently in private alpha and are working with a small group of users to gather feedback and improve the product. Join the waitlist or skip the line by requesting access in our Discord.
We’re still working on that. We’ll share an update on pricing during our public beta phase.
Not at this time—Pierre is a cloud-based service.
The best place to meet the Pierre team and ask questions is our community Discord.
